In this course, part of a 5-course series filmed live at AIA Seattle’s 2025 Housing Forum, Design professionals and housing experts discuss how TOD (Transit-Oriented Developments) can foster walkable, mixed-use transit-accessible communities and examine inclusive strategies for ensuring historically marginalized communities can benefit from affordable housing and public realm improvements near transit hubs.
Panelists discuss cities with joyful, walkable, kid- and elder-friendly neighborhoods designed around major transit hubs throughout the world. Presenters also evaluate how Seattle’s Sound Transit strategies for leveraging surplus land and real estate assets support equitable TOD, including the implementation of the 80-80-80 policy for affordable housing.
This course is moderated by Kate Smith, AIA, NCARB | SMR Architects with presentations by Andrew Grant Houston, AIA, NCARB, CPHD | House Cosmopolitan, Jim Bodoia, AIA, LEED AP | Perkins Eastman, and Thatcher Imboden | Sound Transit.
