In this course, part of a 5-course series filmed live at AIA Seattle’s 2025 Housing Forum, Johanna Hurme of 5468796 Architecture explores strategies for providing affordable multi-family housing based on their publication "platform.MIDDLE: Architecture for Housing the 99%." Johanna confronts challenges being faced by architects, builders, developers, and policymakers in their efforts to address housing supply gaps. Johanna expands on 5468796’s approach to the architect’s role in challenging contexts, intersecting with politics, economics, civic governance, social activism and other forms of cultural and scholarly research. In a fast-paced tour of some of her firm's projects, Johanna elaborates on a series of design and planning strategies for filling social housing needs.
