This course, part of a 5-course series filmed live at AIA Seattle’s 2025 Housing Forum, explores strategies for providing affordable multi-family housing based on "platform.MIDDLE: Architecture for Housing the 99%," a 4-volume publication by 5468796 Architecture. Johanna Hurme confronts challenges being faced by architects, builders, developers, and policymakers in their efforts to address housing supply gaps. Johanna’s keynote expands on two of the topics in this publication: Practice Ecosystem, describing 546’s approach to the architect’s role in challenging contexts, intersecting with politics, economics, civic governance, social activism, and other forms of cultural and scholarly research; and Toolkit, looking at a selection of the firm’s projects, uncovering a series of design and planning strategies developed over years of experience in the multi-family housing typology.

This course is presented by Johanna Hurme, Architect, Co-Founder | 5468796 Architecture Inc.

Course Prices: $40 AIA members, $60 non-members (or purchase the 5-part series and save more than 20%)
